Some days ago, I saw a documentary about one of the greatest baseball players in history.
Yogi Berra
Maybe you don’t know who I am talking about, nowadays, Ohtani and other players are the ones being mentioned very often.
However, Yogi who used to play as catcher for the Yankees during the 40s and 50s is one of the best baseball players ever.
– He won 10 world series, more than any other player
– He was elected to Hall of Fame in 1972
– He caught Don Larsen’s perfect game in game five of the 1956 World Series.
Even with all those accomplishments, Yogi is better known for his charisma.
Especially for his Yogi-ism. Telling a lot by telling nothing.
His most famous ones are:
- It ain’t over ’til it’s over.” (This one inspired Lenny Kravitz to make a song)
- You can observe a lot by watching
- Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded (explaining on why he no longer went to a popular restaurant)
- Always go to other people’s funerals; otherwise they won’t go to yours
- Predictions are hard, especially about the future
- The future ain’t what it used to be
- If you can’t imitate him, don’t copy him
And one of his most popular “When you come to a fork in the road, take it.” When giving directions to Joe Garagiola to his home, which was accessible by two routes.
